We're Having a Baby!

Guys! Baby Oster due January 30th, 2021. Can you believe it?! If you follow me on instagram, you already know. You may even know the gender…. :)

We found out on our 6th wedding anniversary. Super fun. (And super scary, but super fun).

We took some photos with my tripod at 14 weeks to make our social media announcement feel a little more special.

We took some photos with my tripod at 14 weeks to make our social media announcement feel a little more special.

We didn’t (read: couldn’t) keep it a secret very long. I texted a couple of friends who see us everyday this photo right away:

We told a few people because I knew we would want to tell someone if we miscarried anyway. We knew we would want support if that were the case. It was great to be able to share our excitement right away. However, we held back on telling most people for a few weeks. We didn’t want to mention it to anyone who would have an emotional attachment as well (like family) until we knew it was more likely to stick around.

I ended up being so sick with morning sickness that I was glad we mentioned it to the friends who live near us, as it was impossible to hide how I was feeling. We ended up having to tell our families at 8 weeks because we were going to a wedding and needed travel accommodation. We basically had to tell everyone we interacted with in person because of how I was feeling. I don’t know how women wait until 12 weeks! I was also happy to know we had so much support no matter which direction the pregnancy took. It felt freeing for me!

We’re we trying?

Long story short: yes, we were open to having kids and active, you could say.

:)

We were in the “no kids camp” for awhile! I didn’t want kids for most of my life. Our journey to being open to having kids at all is a long story and it took us a while to decide if having kids was the right path for us. It became both an ethical conundrum (because of our sustainability/environmental ethics) and an introspective question about desire (mostly for me). I know a lot of millennials may struggle with the same thoughts while deciding about having kids or not so I would be happy to share more about our journey. It’s tough between careers, finances, the economy, the political state of the world, and overpopulation concerns. For me, I wasn’t sure about the whole idea of motherhood and giving up freedom. If you want to hear more of this story, come find me on instagram and let me know.

We had been practicing natural family planning for nine years, so it was an easy switch once we decided we were open to having a baby. However, we did not get pregnant right away. I was working on healing some imbalanced hormones and adrenal/HPA axis issues that were causing crazy symptoms so I was tracking my cycle meticulously. I learned so much during this time! I was working with my nutrition, lifestyle, stress levels, and cycle. I read so many books on women’s health, hormones, and fertility. It was such a great time for me to learn. So I am grateful for the 8-9 months is took us to get pregnant! I feel like I can really help my female clients on a whole other level know.

I can’t wait to share more about cycle tracking and how we prepared ourselves for starting a family, both emotionally and physically. Now that we are in the thick of it, I also can’t wait to share what this pregnancy journey has been like and all of the exciting things that go along with such a big adventure!
